Colorado Wine Room's Latest News

Colorado Wine Club Launched

July 22 marked the day the first Colorado Wine Club packages were delivered and available for pickup.  All members received a nice introductory gift set and two very nice bottles of Colorado Wine.  Some members elected to join the sweet club while others opted for the Dry or Vintner's Choice clubs.  All members get 10% off everything in the store, from salads to barrel stave benches.  If you haven't signed up yet, you can do so at our store, by phone, (970-858-6330), or on our secure website - just go to Colorado Wine Club.

Technical Foul!

Much to our dismay, and to the detriment of all non-local Colorado wine lovers, we are unable to ship other people's wine (OPW) within Colorado.  That means that we can't ship anything we currently carry to addresses in Colorado.  Now, once we release some of our own wine we can ship it, but the very limited quantities we'll be doing won't allow for much.  We don't really know why the law reads that way, but we think it's a legal engineering problem.  This means our beloved local patrons will comprise the larger part of the Colorado Wine Club, which is fine because the local folks don't have to pay for shipping!  Fortunately, we're still able to ship to many of the other states.

Wine Tasting 101

Our next Wine Tasting 101 Class is offered through the Fruita Parks and Recreation department on Friday, August 26th from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.  Join us as we sip and swirl our way to a better understanding of wine and its complexities.  We will discuss such wine concepts as dryness, fruitiness, tannins and acidity.  Spend an evening sampling a variety of fine Colorado wines followed by light hors d'oeuvres.  The cost is $32.  You can register by phone (970-858-0360), at the Fruita Civic Center (325 East Aspen Avenue) or online by going to Fruita Homepage.  Follow the links for online registration.

New Wines In the Lineup

We've added a few new wines to the all-star lineup here at the tasting bar.  Canyon Wind Cellars' Desert Rosé ($12.49) is a fine example of a slightly sweet, lightly colored wine.  Made from Petite Verdot grapes, one of the Bordeaux varieties, it has clean strawberry and cherry characters, beautiful balance and a lush lingering finish.  This is a great wine for casual social gatherings.

The 2003 Syrah from Garfield Estates ($19.99) is a classic Rhone red with intense but very smooth tannins, notes of raspberry and lavender in the finish.  Enjoy this wine with grilled beef, portabella mushrooms or a pungent Stilton.  Only 170 cases were bottled, so this one won't be around very long.

Also from Garfield Estates is the 2004 S Squared, ($13.99) which is mostly a Bordeaux white blend consisting of sauvignon blanc and semillon, but also contains a healthy dollop of viognier (Vee Oh Nyay), one of our favorite Colorado varieties, for some elevated fruit and body.

New Furniture & Fixtures Installed

At long last, we have umbrellas and tables on our patio!  These have been on special order for some time now, and we're very pleased to announce they're finally in place.  Many of our customers have put them to good use already with some of our fresh wraps, salads, cheese samplers and treats to enjoy with a glass of wine.  Bon appetit!

We also had our metal craftsman, Mickey Krakowski, create a special foot rail and four bar stools to complete the tasting bar motíf.  For some reason, people just feel better when they can put one foot up on the rail while they talk or enjoy sampling the wines.

Cheers!
