Dear Colorado Wine Club Member,

This month’s E-News included a plug for booking special events at the shop.  Now we’d like to invite our Wine Club members to an event we’ve booked especially for you.  We’re calling it  the Colorado Wine Club Spring Reception.  This event is at no cost to you – it’s our way of saying thanks for all your support.  Also, at that time we’ll unveil our first wine ever made under our own label.  As you may know, we’re licensed as Talon Winery and our roughly 50 cases worth of wine is made from Viognier grapes.  Consequently, subject to approval of the Federal government, we’ll call it Talon Viognier.  The reception is on Saturday, March 11th from 5:30 to whenever.  We’ll have some nice delectables to eat, along with your usual complimentary wine tasting.  Please RSVP with a yea or a nay so we know how many are coming, and do feel free to bring a couple of friends if you’d like.

Enclosed are your February Wine Club bottles.  This month’s wines for the Dry Colorado Wine Club are:

Trail Ridge Winery 2002 Cabernet Franc

Tim Merrick and Mark Fiore of Trail Ridge Winery have been making wine in Colorado for quite some time.  That experience serves them well, as this Cab Franc is showing beautifully.  It’s a great  example of a prominent oak component that doesn’t get in the way.  It’s 4 years old now, and aging quite gracefully so far.  Smooth tannins, rich texture, and a long, clean finish make this a great wine to serve with everyday home cooked meals like meatloaf, spaghetti, beef stroganoff, even fajitas.  The wine is reasonably priced at $14.50, less your 10% Colorado Wine Club discount.

Bookcliff Vineyards 2004 Viognier

Those of you that have heard us rave about Viognier know that this is one of our favorite grapes for the Grand Valley AVA (American Viticultural Area).  It only accounts for about 3% of the total plantings in the state, but we think it deserves a lot more.  With a heavy body and a fruity, ethereal overlay, this is a unique wine and deserves your attention.  Apricots and peaches come through in the mouth, while the finish is anise and cardamom.  Try it with halibut or garlic chicken.

As always, enjoy the wines in good health!

Sincerely,

Glenn & Natalie Foster
