Winter Vines
The grape vines are fast asleep as winter steals the memory of summer heat. Even though we saw some unusually low temperatures here in the valley, experts seem confident that no damage has been done to the vines. How do they survive? It has to do with how deeply they were able to go into dormancy. It's not so much how cold it gets during the dead of winter, but how quickly they come out of dormancy in the spring. This is the real danger zone for vines and their precious fruits. If we see an extended warm spell in March and then a cold snap, it can really hurt the crop. Fortunately, we've seen many good years of crops here in the Grand Valley. That's why it's such a great place to grow grapes!
Will Work for Wine
On January 14th a worthy crew gathered to put some 500 gallons of 2006 Talon Viognier in bottles, complete with labels and capsules. This team of highly motivated individuals were pushed beyond their limits, and all reported important feelings of inspiration and a deeper appreciation for their regular lives. Thanks from the depths of our souls to Amber, John, Kathy, Mindi, Gregg, Kim, Greg, Rocco, Miranda, John the Fish Guy and Ron. Couldn't have done it without you!
Afterwards, we enjoyed amazing pizza from Pablo's Pizza here at the Kokopelli Center. It paired beautifully with the wine. The 2006 Talon Viognier is crisp, bright and clean, with notes of pear, grapefruit and melons. It's got a fine-textured, balanced mouthfeel and a lingering medium finish. It will be perfect for sipping on those warm afternoons that are just around the corner. It will definitely go well with the Pear Ginger Torte we're featuring at the Wine Lover's Dessert Night.
Talon Wines Ready for Takeoff
As you may know, we are still unable to ship wines made by other wineries within Colorado, even though we can ship those same wines to numerous states outside of Colorado. Luckily we're able to ship wines made by our own Talon Winery. With our January bottling of Talon Viognier and our Rock Red Wine, we now have two wines available for shipment in Colorado. The Viognier and the Rock Red retail at $16 and $15 respectively. A Talon 2-pack shipped to the Denver area would be around $47. As always, we offer a 10% case discount and you are welcome to mix and match. Call us toll free at 877-858-6330 to place your order.
