 Dear Colorado Wine Club Member,

The Christmas season is upon us as our 115 gallons of Talon Viognier continues to cold stabilize and clarify in the tank.  We also continue to improve the heat exchange system engineered  by yours truly.  I’m currently working out a system of trickling the glycol down the ice cold walls of the freezer to better chill the wine both during and after fermentation.

Our Christmas wish for you is that you gather family and friends ‘round the dinner table and enjoy their company with good food and good wine - the pleasures of our earthly existence.

Enclosed are your November Wine Club wines.  This month’s wines for the Sweet Colorado Wine Club are:

Grande River Vineyards 2002 Port

Dark, rich and luscious, this port is one of the best ever made in Colorado.  For those of you that are not familiar with port, it is one of several types of “fortified” wines.  Fortification is the adding of grape spirits, or brandy, to a wine, making it a higher percent alcohol than it was.  Port always has significant residual sugar as well, and because of the high alcohol, there is little risk of a spontaneous fermentation.  This was originally done in Portugal to preserve the wines more effectively on the long sail back to England.  It became a popular style and has survived the test of time.  Enjoy this one after dinner, either by itself or with a rich, chocolaty dessert.

Bookcliff Vineyards Allegretto

This wine is a delightful dessert wine made of Orange Muscat grapes.  It features, among other elements, orange zest in the nose, and apricots in the mouth, followed by a very distinctive nutty finish.  Orange Muscat is not related to the more historically significant Muscat Blanc A Petits Grains, or Moscato di Canelli in Italy.  Delicious with rich fruit tarts, cheesecake, and milk chocolate, this wine would seem to challenge the old standard variety.

As always, enjoy the wines in good health!

Sincerely,

Glenn & Natalie Foster
