Go to http://funnlink.gjcity.org/Activities/ActivitiesDetails.asp?aid=3698 Fruita Fall Fest & Bed RaceThe annual Bed Race put on (and Oh what a put-on!) by the Fruita Chamber of Commerce, took place on Saturday, September 24th. The agony of the feat was almost unbearable, but we survived. More than that, we WON! It’s true that you have to be willing to humiliate yourself in order to win in certain of life’s games. In this case we subjected some of our best friends to a really unusual challenge. A five member team, dubbed the Grape Stompers, consisting of four men and one woman, all dressed up like Lucille Ball, pushed a high-tech bed mounted on a bicycle foundation through an obstacle/race course. We were trying to invoke images of that famous episode of I Love Lucy where the lead actress treads on grapes in a large wooden vessel and makes a hilarious mess of it. With redish wigs, legs sprayed with purple hairspray, and pretty blouses and skirts, handmade by the one female Lucy, we strutted our stuff and won the match based on speed, costumes and comic value. We were assisted greatly by the use of a four-seat bicycle arrangement courtesy of Brown Cycles in Downtown Grand Junction. History Wall Completed! After 10 months of research, study, interviews and careful consideration, we’ve finished our Colorado Wine History wall. It’s indeed a sight to behold. Our first event following the completion of the project was a reception for the Ivancie family, headed by Dr. Gerald Ivancie. Dr. Ivancie played an important role in the establishment of the current era of theColorado wine industry. The Ivancies came and presented to the public on October 8th at our local Dinosaur Journey museum, and attendees then joined us to rub elbows with a wonderful family. Special thanks to Mickey Krakowski for a great job on this challenging ironwork project. First Wine Fermented! Here at the Colorado Wine Room, we are licensed as Talon Winery. As many of you know, we’ve been in commercial winemaking for over twelve years now and haven’t missed a crush since 1993 in Sonoma, CA. The trend continues as we’ve taken delivery of 120 gallons of fresh Viognier (Vee Oh NYAY) grape juice and have fermented it here in the shop. The aroma of fermenting grape juice is something to experience for yourself, as it is beyond compare. The fermentation is just about complete now, with nearly all of the sugar being converted to alcohol. Subject to government approval of the label, we’ll call this wine Talon Viognier, and we plan to have it in the bottle by January. Of course Wine Club members get first shot at it, so consider a membership. There will be a mere 50 cases available for sale only at this location. So far we’re thinking it will be another great wine from one of the most underplanted grapes in the state. Cheers!Want More News and Info? Check out our E-News Back Issues |
