Dear Colorado Wine Club Member,

The Grand Valley American Viticultural Area, or AVA, is well into the spring season now and moving quickly toward summer.  There is, on average, about 10    inches of shoot growth on the vines, and soon, we’ll see the grape flowers begin to bloom.  We think we’re in pretty good shape for this year’s crop.  If all goes well, the season will conclude with a bountiful harvest, and another round of fabulous wines from this little known AVA.

Enclosed are your Wine Club bottles.  This month’s wines for the Sweet Colorado Wine Club are:

2007 Muscat Canelli, Whitewater Hill

A delicious rendition of an old song, this wine is semi-sweet, with lovely varietal character.  This grape, also known as Muscat Blanc, Muscat Blanc a Petits Grains, or Muscat Bianco, is one of the very oldest grape varieties in existence.  According to some, most of the other traditional wine grapes trace their lineage back to this grape.  It is extremely aromatic and unusual, making it similar to Gewurztraminer.  Enjoy it before dinner with friends and light appetizers.

Angel Blush, Mountain Spirit Winery

This wine is a wonderful blend of apple (40%), pear (40%) and raspberry (you guessed it – 20%) wines.  It’s got a pretty pink color with a fruity, medium-sweet flavor.  Crisp acidity and a clean finish make this a fine accompaniment to many mild appetizers and by itself.  Although it’s quite tempting, try to avoid drinking this wine before you’ve had a good breakfast!

As always, enjoy the wines in good health!

Tongue in Cheek,

Glenn & Natalie Foster
