Dear Colorado Wine Club Member,

September has come and gone in the wink of an eye – a very large eye indeed.  The Grand Valley crush began in late August, ahead of schedule.  It’s been a warm growing season, accelerating the ripening of the grapes.  Wines in the Grand Valley tend to be a little more consistently better in warm growing seasons in our experience, so we’re excited to proclaim we think it’s going to be a great vintage for Colorado Wines.  The 2006 Talon Viognier is fermenting here at the shop as I write, and seems to be coming along very nicely. It may be ready for release as early as November or December, so stay tuned.

Enclosed are your Wine Club bottles.  This month’s wines for the Sweet Colorado Wine Club are:

Meadery of the Rockies Blackberries and Honey

This wine is a blend of mead, or honey wine, and blackberry wine.  The blackberry portion lends a very nice berry flavor along with a beautiful color.  It’s a little tart and medium sweet, achieving a very nice balance.  Try it slightly chilled either before or after dinner, either alone or with mildly sweet foods such as fruit or berry desserts – nothing too heavily sweet or rich.

Graystone Lipizzan Pinot Gris Port

This dessert wine is deliciously rich, crisp and sweet.  It’s made from Pinot Gris grapes, which are pink and blue when ripe, so a little color is apparent.  It is considered a white port and is fortified accordingly.  Try it after a fine evening meal.  It will be quite an experience.  Note the double dipped, silver wax seal.  If you want to lay this bottle down for a generation or so, the seal will most certainly stand the test of time.

As always, enjoy the wines in good health!

Sincerely,

Glenn & Natalie Foster
