Dear Colorado Wine Club Member, Crush is in the air, and an interesting growing season is coming to a close. It’s was very hot early in the summer, then unusually wet in the six weeks or so prior to full veraison. For those growers who are on top of their game, powdery mildew is easy to control. If you get caught off guard, though, it can prove fairly difficult and damaging; especially with those midnight thunderstorms we were getting in late August and early September. No doubt we’ll have some great wines from this challenging season, but we’ll just see how hard they are to find. Rest assured we’ll be doing our best to find the best there is in Colorado. Enclosed are your Wine Club bottles. This month’s wines for the Sweet Colorado Wine Club are: Blueberry Bliss, St. Kathryns Cellars St. Kathryn Cellars is named after winemaker Fred Strothman’s late mother, pictured on this bottle’s label. We’re quite sure Kathryn would have approved of this wine. Blueberry Bliss is a seriously flavorful wine. It’s quite sweet and nicely balanced by acid. It’s like blueberry lemonade with a kick. Serve this one slightly chilled after dinner, perhaps with a blueberry cheesecake, or possibly with blueberry pancakes for brunch on a Sunday! Either way, prepare yourself for a flavor fantasy that only ends when your last bottle is empty. We’ll have just a little of this at the shop for your continued enjoyment. Wild Plum Wine, Mountain View Winery Here is an authentic, high country, Colorado rocky mountain product. Each year, winemaker Mike Young talks his family into a leisurely trip up onto Grand Mesa. Somehow, he carefully maneuvers the troops over to the wild plum patch and gets the gang to harvest enough plums to make a good batch of Wild Plum wine. It’s medium sweet, with good flavor and a pretty pink color. Serve this wine cold and have it with Monterey Jack or Swiss cheese. As always, enjoy the wines in good health! Sincerely,
Glenn & Natalie Foster |
