Dear Colorado Wine Club Member,

The first real killing frost has smitten the valley, thus officially ending the wine growing season.  Because the leaves cannot make their magic, there won’t be any more ripening of the fruit.  Any grapes left hanging on the vine at this point only get sweeter by dessication – the loss of water, and the making of raisins!  Wineries and winemakers are now faced with finishing fermentations, starting secondary fermentations, restarting any stuck fermentations, and cleaning up the crush equipment for storage until next year.  Pretty soon we’ll need fermental therapy.  Here at Talon Winery, we’re finishing off our very first pink wine.  If you get the chance to stop by, ask for a little tank sample and we’ll be happy to oblige.

Enclosed are your Wine Club bottles.  This month’s wines for the Sweet Colorado Wine Club are:

Riesling, Winery at Holy Cross Abbey

This Riesling is as good as it’s ever been.  It’s one of our most popular wines because of both what’s inside the bottle and the sheer visual impact of the cobalt blue bottle with its bold .  It’s medium sweet with great varietal character and a fine acid balance – not too tart, not to soft.  Flavors are definitely in the tropical fruit zone:  mandarin oranges, pineapples, and mangoes.  Try it by itself or with various cheeses of not too much strength.

Strawberries ‘n Honey, Meadery of the Rockies

Here is a mead for your libational pleasure.  The Strawberries ‘n Honey is a honey wine with distinction.  It has a nice pink hue, a floral nose, and a pleasant sweet flavor.  Strangely enough, it’s a bit grapey.  It’s not the sweetest wine we’ve come across, but we believe in moderation, most of the time, and this wine is great because it’s not too sweet.  Try it with Asiago cheese or herbed cheddar, or a dill havarti.  Failing those options, enjoy the wine with family and friends.

As always, enjoy the wines in good health!

Sincerely,

Glenn & Natalie Foster
