Dear Colorado Wine Club Member,

Big changes are afoot:  Talon Winery, dba the Colorado Wine Room, has just purchased a winery in Palisade!  We’ve been looking for a way to expand production, and it actually found us!  You’ll hear more about it as we move forward.  Other than that, it’s business as usual.  Winter is upon us in an atypically cold way.  The vines should be holding up just fine, as long as they don’t warm up too much or too early in spring.  It’s a great exhale, go on a vacation, or just kick back and enjoy the fruits of the vine.

Enclosed are your Wine Club bottles.  This month’s wines for the Vintner’s Choice Colorado Wine Club are:

2004 Cooper’s Reserve, Boulder Creek Winery

Cooper’s Reserve is a 50/50 blend of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, with an upscale, hand-dipped wax seal over the cork.  It’s got a beautiful dark color to it, and a rich nose, replete with oak and fruit character.  In the mouth, we get a well-balanced mouthfeel, with some obvious oak structure, complementing the dense berry flavors.  A touch of vanilla in the finish rounds out the experience.  We conclude that this is certainly a fine example of a dark red wine.  Enjoy it now or lay it down up to 10 years.  It’ll be just fine anytime in between.

Cabernet Sauvignon, Mountain Spirit Winery

This wine, from a winery way up in the Rockies, is surprisingly intense.  It’s got a great nose, good color, and a fairly complex flavor profile.  Look for a stout foundation of tannins and a decent amount of fruit to counteract that tannic structure.  Again we see a Colorado red with great potential for enjoyment either now or anytime in the next decade or so.  Try this wine with beef or bison, prepared on the grill with black pepper and celery salt.  You’ll enjoy it thoroughly.

As always, enjoy the wines in good health!

Sincerely,

Glenn & Natalie Foster
