Dear Colorado Wine Club Member, Spring time in the Rockies . . . it’s a wonderful time of year! The birds are setting up to raise their families, the sun is lingering a bit longer, seemingly more so with the onset of daylight savings, and the bees are starting to look for flowers. The northern hemisphere is awakening! Here comes another growing season, and here comes another crop of grapes here on the western slope. Word on the street is that the grapes did very well this winter, so far. Keep your fingers crossed though – it’s still early. Enclosed are your Wine Club bottles. This month’s wines for the Vintner’s Choice Colorado Wine Club are: 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon, Reeder Mesa Vineyards This small winery seems to continually produces nice wines. This one is no exception. Though it’s a little tight yet, it shows great promise. Look for great color, a fruity, rounded nose, a little tart bite in the mouth, followed by a long, sweet finish of medium breadth. Try this wine with a boneless beefsteak, with fresh, northern hemisphere asparagus, which is available and of high quality. Round the meal off with a side of mashed potatoes with all the fixin’s. If you like super smooth wines, give this one a year or two of aging, or a half hour of breathing after opening. Sweet Scarlet, St. Kathryn Cellars This is a wine of singular popularity. It is a blend of Merlot and blackberry wine. It is very dark in color, with a delicious, aromatic nose. In the mouth, look for velvety smooth tannins and a small portion of real structure for aging. There is some residual sugar, so look for those rounded, easy corners that go down so smoothly. This unusual blend goes well with milk chocolate, ice cream of various flavors, and all by its lonesome. As always, enjoy the wines in good health! Sincerely,
Glenn & Natalie Foster |
