Dear Colorado Wine Club Member,

September has come and gone in the wink of an eye – a very large eye indeed.  The Grand Valley crush began in late August, ahead of schedule.  It’s been a warm growing season, accelerating the ripening of the grapes.  Wines in the Grand Valley tend to be a little more consistently better in warm growing seasons in our experience, so we’re excited to proclaim we think it’s going to be a great vintage for Colorado Wines.  The 2006 Talon Viognier is fermenting here at the shop as I write, and seems to be coming along very nicely. It may be ready for release as early as November or December, so stay tuned.

Enclosed are your Wine Club bottles.  This month’s wines for the Vintner’s Choice Colorado Wine Club are:

Talon Winery 2005 Viognier

Our first released wine under the Talon label, the Talon Viognier is in very short supply.  In true Viognier style, it has a distinguished, aromatic nose of sweet sage and flowers, followed by round grapefruit and lichee fruit flavors with a medium-weight body.  The finish is full, soft and rounded at first, quickly fading to a long, sustained zesty sensation.  Sensational indeed!

Talon Winery Rock Red Wine

Another recent release from our in-house winery, the Rock Red has been selling like hotcakes at a church breakfast.  It’s a nice Bordeaux blend of roughly 78% Merlot and 22% Cabernet Franc.  Lots of fruit in the nose and fore palate, a robust yet rounded mouthfeel, and a slight hard edge in the finish.  What a ride!  This wine will age for at least 3 years, and is thoroughly enjoyable right now.  Check the label too – it rocks!

As always, enjoy the wines in good health!

Sincerely,

Glenn & Natalie Foster
